November 23, 2017 – CTCC presented by Pirelli today confirmed the addition of GT Cup class to its categories, beginning in 2018. This new GT Cup class will be comprised of ultra performance race cars such as the Chevrolet Corvette, Dodge Viper, Ferrari 430/458, Nissan GTR and Porsche 991/997 GT3. GT Cup class race cars will compete on the track concurrently with the existing Touring, Super Touring and GT Sport classes.
“This is an exciting development for CTCC,” stated John Bondar, President of CTCC. “There has been massive interest from drivers, teams and fans in adding an exotic category for some time now and we are responding. It is the logical next step to offer a complete sports car racing platform for Canadian drivers. We are looking forward to seeing all drivers challenge for dominance in their class.”
As planning continues for 2018, this season will see four classes of competition in CTCC including Touring, Super Touring, GT Sport and now GT Cup. Touring and Super Touring classes have been the foundation of CTCC since the series launched in 2006 and features cars such as the BMW M2, Honda Civic, Mini Cooper, Mazda Miata and Porsche Cayman. GT Sport Class was added to the series in 2016 to accommodate highly modified race cars. This class features the BMW M3, Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Porsche 911, Subaru WRX and Toyota GT86. In 2018, CTCC welcomes the new GT Cup category. This addition allows exotic and high-performance machines to compete within its field.
