HYUNDAI snags the manufacturer’s points lead for the Canadian Touring Car Championship (CTCC), heading into ICAR on Canada Day long weekend. With points contributed from Hyundai Genesis Racing/Blanchet Motorsports Drivers Bob Attrell and Damon Sharpe the duo have collectively scored 185 points, a narrow margin over Mitsubishi and Ford at 150 respectively. Honda has 70 and Porsche with 55.
The ICAR circuit at the Mirabel Airport north of Montreal proves to be a race of attrition and this bodes for the HYUNDAI marque with their proven reliability. “But its speed we are currently working on” says Bob (Attrell) driver of the #88 HYUNDAI GENESIS. “We are happy with this year’s reliability but we know the cars are capable of more and we need to tap into that. The ICAR circuit demands good handling and braking predictability and we will focus on those areas for Canada Day”
Team Partner Frank Blanchet echoes Bob’s (Attrell) thoughts. “The next 3 circuits on the CTCC calendar reward good handling and if we do well here at ICAR, its safe to say we will do well and score valuable points at the triple header weekend at Shannonville and in to GP3R (Grand Prix Trois Rivieres). We share the race weekend with NASCAR PINTY’s Series and Super Production, both offering different tire compounds that form the groove of the track. This makes ICAR a real challenge.”
