Blanchet Motorsports/Hyundai Genesis Racing attended Rounds 3 &4 of the Canadian Touring Car Championship, taking place at Calabogie Motorsports Park about 100km west of Ottawa. This 20 turn 5.05km world class race track provides some of the most challenging racing on the series’ calendar.

“The cream rises to the top here at Calabogie”, said Frank Blanchet (team principal). “You have to race the field of competitors AND the race track to do well here.”

The #88 car of Bob Attrell (team principal & driver) posted a qualifying effort of second in his Hyundai Genesis Coupe followed by the #84 Team Hyundai driver Damon Sharpe just under a second behind. Gary Kwok in his Mitsubishi Evo captured the pole and went flag to flag to win Round 3. Hyundai drivers Bob Attrell and Damon Sharpe finished 2nd and 4th respectively. This result solidified the points lead for Bob Attrell heading into Round 4.

Mother Nature brought a cool and rainy qualifying session Sunday morning. A great result for Sharpe capturing his first Pole Position in the GT Class and in his Hyundai Genesis Coupe. “The conditions were terrible out there but I thought it was important to string a bunch of laps together to develop a rhythm and it paid off”, states an emphatic Sharpe. “Bob (Attrell) really helped me in practice with some on track coaching and it helped me tremendously”. Attrell settled for p3 as his #88 car had a lot of water surrounding the electronics. A veteran move and a good starting place for Round 4.

The race added a new element to strategy. It had stopped raining just before the start and teams had to decide whether to start on the CONTINENTAL slick tires or CONTINENTAL rain tires. David Deem (Team Manager and Crew Chief), made the call for both team Hyundai cars to start on rains. Sharpe benefited by taking the lead at the start but couldn’t hold off the all-wheel drive Mitsubishi of Gary Kwok who went on to win and sweep the weekend. Attrell was caught off line at the start of the race ending up in the Turn 2 wall resulting in a DNF relegating his points lead down to 4th. GT Class points are now: Damon Sharpe (HYUNDAI) – 447, Chris Sahakian (FORD) – 429, Gary Kwok (MITSUBISHI) – 364, Bob Attrell (HYUNDAI) – 358

Blanchet Motorsports/ Hyundai Genesis Racing is confident heading to the next rounds of the CTCC (Championship) at Circuit ICAR July 2-3 as the team resumes its GT Class battle with the Mitsubishi, Ford and Porsche for top honours.
